Between working, doctor’s appointments, calls with friends, any semblance of a workout routine, and attempting to eat healthy — something has got to give!
It feels impossible to do everything we “should” be doing to live a healthy lifestyle and ultimately enhance fertility.
We all know that sleep allows our body to rest, repair, and operate optimally. But if sleeping 7-9 hours seems like just too lofty of a goal, try these tips to make every hour count:
Consistency.
Aim to hit the sack and open your peepers at the same time each day. Our bodies have internal clocks that crave a regular rhythm. Bonus points if you create a bedtime routine that calms your mind and readies your spirit to rest.
Screen Free.
Avoid watching TV or being on your phone for the hour before you go to bed. The blue light in screens disrupts our circadian rhythms and can make it harder to fall asleep. Set a timer on your phone to remind yourself to turn them off before bed.
Cozy Covers.
If you can, create a restful environment where you sleep. Avoid working on your computer in bed. Keep the temperature cool. The darker the space the better—you may want to consider purchasing black out curtains.
Silence is Golden.
Turn your phone on silent while you sleep so that you are not interrupted. Most phones have a feature that allows certain numbers to ring your phone even when on silent, in case there is an emergency.
We can’t do it all, including sleeping for 9 hours a night. But hopefully these tips will help you maximize whatever amount of sleep is reasonable for you right now.
